My creative journey didn’t begin with photography, but with a passion for entrepreneurship and design. As a kid, I set up a school newspaper, not because I wanted to be a journalist, but because I found it incredibly fun to design. I mixed photos, text, and even little games on a double-sided A4 sheet, always busy creating my own visual identities and logos—and proudly showing them to my parents. My first true love was branding, until a stomach illness forced me to stay at home. My psychologist advised daily walks, but those soon became super boring. Then my mum had a brilliant idea: bring her old camera along so I’d have something to do. That simple suggestion transformed my daily walks into something meaningful with a mission, sparking a passion for photography. A breakthrough for me came when I photographed a jubilee event—a nerve-wracking yet important experience. At that event, I met Paul Wensveen, a retired advertising photographer with stories to fill a couple of books. Paul taught me that photography is about much more than technical skill; it’s about connecting with people and breathing life into ideas. Over the years, I built up my expertise by working with various companies. I gained invaluable experience at agencies like WitmanKleipool, and sharpened my editorial skills and speed with Het Parool, NOS and RTL Boulevard. I also worked with Ron Mandos Gallery, where I eventually provided my photography advice and insights. After testing the waters with Othy Agency, I realized that being solely an agent didn’t suit my creative spirit. I evolved my vision into Othy Collective, which eventually became Studio Hoenson, a boutique creative studio in Amsterdam, specialising in Photography, Branding, Consultancy & Artist Management. I combine creativity with strategy, supported by a curated creative network.
